Foxwood Diesel’s own apprentice, Leigh Worsdale has been shortlisted as The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) First Year Apprentice of the Year.
The AMRC Training Centre forms part of the University of Sheffield AMRC group and offers the very best in practical and academic training.
Launched in 2015, the prestigious awards are now in their second year and recognise the best students in their field. There are 10 categories, with the Boeing-sponsored Apprentice of the Year being the headline award.å
Leigh was put forward for the award by Foxwood Diesel after impressing the team with her organisational skills and initiative. She has been instrumental in developing a parts cataloguing system to the workshop, documenting job procedures and introducing the uniform which all the Foxwood Diesel team now wear. In addition, she is also building a hydraulic table to assist staff when stripping engines. The table can be adjusted to the height of the person undertaking the work, making the job more comfortable.
The winner of the AMRC Apprentice of the Year award will be announced on 30 March at an award ceremony held at Firth Court at the University of Sheffield. The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of apprentices as part of National Apprenticeship Week (6 – 10 March).
Leigh joined Foxwood Diesel in 2016 and is expecting to finish her apprenticeship later this year. As part of her apprenticeship, she attends the AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield one day a week.
Owner of Foxwood Diesel, Ken Worsdale commented: "The team at Foxwood are all delighted that Leigh has been shortlisted for the award. She’s doing well in her apprenticeship and make a real difference to Foxwood.”
